LeaderShape Internship

Is there someone you know who is looking for a meaningful ministry opportunity within the church? Or is there a specific need that an intern could fill?

PCJC LeaderShape Internship is designed to help the church to IDENTIFY, EXPLORE, and EMPOWER in its engagement with the interns. PCJC will also provide financial support.

IDENTIFY

Before the internship begins, we can help the church identify potential interns or needs that could be addressed by interns. Each intern should have a ministry mentor to help guide and shape the internship. The intern and mentor will work together to develop clear and measurable goals. PCJC LeaderShape internship has resources to assist you with identifying and developing the internship.

The candidates will share their testimony of faith and explain why they’re interested in the internship. This will help us screen them. They’ll also be asked to provide two references, one of whom should be a pastor or a professor.

When the intern and the mentor are identified, PCJC will help set up the initial interview to get things started.

EXPLORE

No matter how long the internship is, it’s important to set goals and have regular debriefs with the mentor. These meetings need to include ministry reflection that helps the intern gain a deeper understanding of their calling. PCJC LeaderShape internship has resources to help ministry mentors accomplish these conversations.

The purpose of the internship is two-fold. It helps an intern develop a deeper understanding of ministry and to explore their calling from God. It also helps the local church develop its ministry vision and goals.

EMPOWER

Once the internship starts, it is important for the church to empower the intern as much as possible to help them reach their goals.

It’s good to always keep in mind what’s next. The intern could develop into paid staff after the internship, or even become a Local Ministerial Candidate (LMC) for the church.

PCJC is also here to help empower the church and the mentor who works with the intern. Even beyond the initial interview, PCJC can help the mentor in their debrief meetings with the intern or in any other helpful way.

At the conclusion of the internship, there will be a brief survey that will be given to the church and the intern to evaluate how well the internship went.

PCJC FUNDING

Each PCJC church may apply for funding for one intern per calendar year. The PCJC will fund 50% (up to a maximum reimbursement of $10/hour) for up to 160 hours total for the intern.

There are multiple ways for you to structure the internship to best fit your church. Here are two examples:

Summer Internship: An eight-week internship. The PCJC will fund 50% (up to a maximum reimbursement of $10/hour) for up to 20 hours per week.

Semester Internship: A sixteen-week internship. The PCJC will fund 50% (up to a maximum reimbursement of $10/hour) for up to 10 hours per week.

PCJC Internship reimbursement is to be invoiced by the local church by the 5th of each month. Invoices should be submitted to Kristi Garcia (kristi@pcjcfm.org) with a cc to Roni Okubo (internship@pcjcfm.org).
